25th Anniversary of the Nassauische Sparkasse Ceramics Talent Award

Gefäß in Keramik und Porzellan / the vessel in ceramics and porcelain

The theme of the 8th Naspa Ceramics Talent Award 2016 has been decided:

FOKUS GEFÄSS / FOCUS VESSEL Gefäß in Keramik und Porzellan / vessel in ceramics and porcelain.

Theme: For this competition, which calls for entries internationally, vessels, vessel sculptures and representations of vessels in clay or porcelain or other ceramic material are requested. The focus is placed explicitly on “vessel” in a classic or contemporary interpretation.

Applications: Applications with no more than two pieces or a group of vessels may be accepted. The prerequisite for acceptance to the competition and the exhibition is an interpretation of the theme which is convincing to the judges, artistically interesting and aesthetically appealing.

Judges: An international panel of expert judges appointed by the Nassauische Sparkasse decides on the allocation of the prizes and admission to the exhibition in a two-stage, anonymous judging procedure.

Prizes: Four prizes to the value of €5,000 each will be awarded. Two of these prizes will go to applicants up to 35 years of age, one of which is to be used for further training, an artist-in-residence programme or similar.

Closing date for entry: Sunday, 14 February 2016, midnight

Further dates: In February / March 2016 the judges will make the first selection from among the submitted works. On invitation by the judges, the selected works are to be shipped to the Keramikmuseum Westerwald in Höhr-Grenzhausen.

The judges are planned to meet to select the prizewinners in Höhr-Grenzhausen in May / June 2016

Opening of the Exhibition and Award Ceremony: planned for September 2016, Keramikmuseum Westerwald, Höhr-Grenzhausen

Colloquium: the day following the opening

The Ceramics Talent Award of the Nassauische Sparkasse (Naspa), Wiesbaden, has been in existence since1990. For the 7th competition in 2013, 388 artists from 45 countries applied – more than ever before. Hitherto, a total of 26 prizes to the value of €114,500 have been awarded.

The theme of the current competition, the eighth, recalls the premiere of the prize 25 years ago on the theme of The Thrown Vessel. A sculptural piece by Jutta Albert, one of the winning entries from the competition, Large-Scale Outdoor Ceramic Sculpture in 2000, was purchased by the Nassauische Sparkasse and now stands in the grounds of the Naspa Servicezentrum in Wiesbaden-Biebrich.
